Conventional setup

It’s easy to set this product for outdoor enjoyment in about 10 minutes. Lay the fabric on the flat ground. Place the door in the direction where you want to enter and exit the shelter.

Stake all four corners to the ground with provided stakes. Assemble the fiberglass poles together. Now slowly insert them through the sleeves of the fabric and put their ends into the pin and ring system.

Raise the structure and attach the fabric to the pole frame using clips. Put the fly on (if you see clouds gathering) and attach it to the poles.

In the end, secure the fly on the rings at the bottom so it will be stable to protect you from the expected rain. Attach the guy lines and adjust the sliders on the ropes as you want. Don’t forget to open the ground vent.

Storage pockets are there and also an E-port to put electrical cable through.

The porch

Families love to pick a model with a porch since they can enjoy summer evenings there. This shelter has a porch (6 x 9 feet) that is all meshed so the mosquitoes and other flying bugs won’t have a chance.

It doesn’t have a sewn-in floor so you will be able to feel the grass with your feet.

In case of rain, the fly will protect the upper part of the porch but it can get inside the screen area at the sides so bear this in mind.

Besides eating your meals and enjoying the afternoon it is a great space to store things that you brought with you in a transport vehicle.

Inner rooms

When you enter through the door you will be stepping into the main/living room or in a large bedroom (if you don’t divide the rooms).

You can enter the porch from this area. The inner room has a lot of windows (aside and at the back) so you can let the light and air in when you want. The place is big enough so you can fit your favorite bed inside for a cozy night’s sleep.

Air circulation

This Elite model has self-rolling mesh windows all over the tent with panels that can be unzipped to provide extra fresh air.

If you will stay in a warm climate you will love the mesh ceiling to have criss-cross ventilation, light inside, and stargaze at night. There are no ground vents but it is a well-ventilated structure.

A tent for warmer climate with almost no rain

This is a typical unit that is used for camping in the first three seasons as it has a lot of mesh to provide you a comfortable summer journey.

There is a rain fly included in the package but you must know that it is best to go outdoors with this shelter in the summer or in the area with no or little rain possible.

It includes an exclusive WeatherTec system to keep you dry on a rainy day.

Elite model with a LED light

The Elite WeatherMaster model has a built-in LED light that enables illumination inside. It is a luxury feature as you will be able to switch between high, low, and nightlight modes due to the wall switch.

The light has 100 lumens. It runs on 4D cell batteries that aren’t included in the package.

It is easy to erect as it has continuous pole sleeves and InstaClip attachments. Get all the parts from the storage box. Layout the fabric where you want to pitch the unit.

Assemble all the poles together. Insert the poles regarding instructions. Lift the structure up and ask someone to help you during the process because it will be easier to do the job.

Stake it. Place a fly on if you need to and guy it down to have a stable structure ready for usage.

  • Roomy, 3 rooms available
  • LED light
  • Perfect summer unit (a lot of mesh)

Coleman Cabin Tent with Instant Setup

Coleman Cabin Tent with Instant Setup in 60 Seconds
  • Illumiline reflective guylines for greater visibility at night
  • Instant setup: In as fast as 1 minute
  • 1-year limited warranty

This is one of the best Coleman cabin tents that doesn’t need any pole assembly and frustration over the setup.

The Coleman tent for 6 people has a cabin shape and a high center height to move freely inside. Its dimensions are 10 x 9 ft. with 6 ft. center height. You will be able to fit 2 queen-size air mattresses in. It weighs 24.9 pounds.

The unit is made of rugged Bodyguard 2X double-thick fabric (150D polyester) with stitched-in heavy-duty telescopic poles for long-lasting use.

Other specifications

This instant shelter has one big D-shape door and huge windows with panels on each side that you can adjust however you want. Two integrated storage pockets are included for you to have items organized.

Protection from the weather

This is a three-season model so it is appropriate to use in nice weather with some precipitation.

Like any other Coleman tent, this one has WeatherTec technology to protect you in case of rain. Welded floors and sealed seams will help you to stay dry inside.

It includes an integrated vented rainfly (2 roof vents) so the hot air can escape out. There are no other (ground) vents but you can open a window or two to have criss-cross ventilation.

You will like the setup as all you have to do is to extend the poles and lift the structure up. So, what is the whole process like?

First, open the storage bag, get the unit out and grab its center. Now extend the poles out and lift them up to get the structure fully standing. You must hear a click when you extend them, this way you set them up properly.

If you see that you have put the doors in the wrong direction, just grab it and rotate it as it is freestanding. The assembly should take you around 1 minute.

  • Instant setup
  • Big windows
  • Durable material
  • Freestanding
  • Standing inside
  • No vestibule
  • Roof vents are not enough in a rainstorm
  • Not for winter use

Coleman Skydome Tent

This is one of the Coleman tents for 4 people that comes in a dome shape. It is their best-seller among other creations that bring joy to campers.

It measures 8 x 7 ft. and has 4 ft. 8 inches center height. The weight of this model is 11.6 pounds. The shelter fits a queen-size airbed.

You can also choose a different size (2, 6, 8-person) and pick an ordinary shelter or the one with Dark Room technology.

It is made out of nylon material with pre-attached fiberglass poles. There is some mesh on the upper part to provide fresh air inside.

Other features

This dome model has 20% more headroom (pre-bend roof poles) in comparison to other traditional Coleman dome tents which is great.

It has one big O-shape door. It doesn’t have any windows but there are mesh parts on the upper fabric to provide light inside and some fresh air. You have mesh storage pockets and a gear loft to keep things organized and at hand.

Air flow

This is a shelter that has a big door, no windows but has a meshed upper part of the structure to provide air flow.

If you have a rain fly on, some air will come under the front awning inside. However, I would like that the company included at least one floor vent.

Weather protection

It features a rain fly that covers only half of the structure and provides a small awning above the door so the rain can get in directly.

Their weather technology will keep you safe and dry in case there is raining normally. It can withstand up to 35mph winds.

Extend the fabric on the ground, stake one of the corners, and assemble the pre-attached poles.

When you are done with assembling the poles insert them into the front corner pockets (the product doesn’t have a pin and ring system).

Now connect the top middle clips where the poles cross one another. Also, connect the other clips to the frame.

You have your summer shelter ready but if you want you can also put a fly on. Install it by having the brand logos on the side and a fly pole sleeve in the front.

Use its S hooks to attach the fly to the black plastic rings at the bottom so it will be stable.

The fly has a pole (above the doors) that you must insert through the sleeve. In the end, insert its ends into grommets and secure it with attachments.

Stake out the other three corners and guy line the fly for a safe outdoor trip. The whole process should take you about 10 minutes.

  • Higher headroom than other Coleman dome tents
  • Wide O-shape door
  • Easy setup
  • Roomy interior
  • Decent price
  • No vestibule
  • No windows
  • Poor ventilation

Coleman 2-Person Pop-Up Tent

Do you want to be a proud owner of the fastest pitching model? Here you have a pop-up Coleman tent that can accommodate up to 2 persons.

It measures 7 feet 6 inches by 4 feet 5 inches and has a 2-foot 11-inch center height. The product weight is 6.41 pounds. You can put 2 sleeping bags, pads, or mats inside to sleep on.

There is one big mesh pocket hanging from the roof to store small items.

The fly is made of 185T 68D fire and water-resistant polyester, while the unit features fiberglass poles that are stitched in the fabric.

Other details

This is a 3-season creation that has one mesh zippered door. You can roll the outer door up and enjoy the summer breeze without any animals since it has mesh inner doors as well.

There aren’t any windows but it has a roof made of mesh and two meshed parts on each side.

Mesh material and doors take care of the ventilation on those hot camping days. This is a simple structure without any vents.

Seasonality and usability

You should use this freestanding tent when you expect nice weather with some rain but avoid heavy rain and strong winds.

It has a fly that covers meshed parts of the structure. This model is perfect for backpacking and hiking (as it’s light), weekend camping, festivals, backyard camping, or to use as a shelter for camping on the beach.

If you don’t like to set up your shelter for too long then this may be your winner. It pop’s up in a matter of seconds as you just throw it in the air to get ready. It has loops to stake it and guy line it for extra weather protection.

Its dimensions are 179 x 122 x 72.8 inches. You will be able to fit 2 air beds inside, each bed in one room.

The weight of the product is 37 pounds. It is a family tunnel tent where you will be able to stand. With the high height and more rooms, it is a perfect unit for camping with the people you love.

This is a European-style tent that has two layers. The outer layer is made of fire retardant polyester with a 4500 mm waterproof coating while the inner one features breathable polyester with no-see-um mesh.

The flysheet is coated with their UVGuard technology that has SPF 50 protection level.

The groundsheet is manufactured with welded and fully integrated polyethylene which means you will walk on sturdy material. Poles are fiberglass.

Other specifications

The Rocky Mountain 5+ has 3 rooms for your disposal. You enter through the full-height door with the drop-down section into the main area where you can enjoy breakfast or rest in the afternoon.

The drop-down section enables a flat entrance that is perfect for wheelchairs.

From there you enter the 2 bedrooms that are darkened for better sleep.

The company’s BlackOut bedrooms (99% of daylight being blocked) and the black coating on the flysheet will help you to rest after lunch and sleep longer in the morning.

The light and privacy are guaranteed with large PVC windows that have rollable panels in the living room.

What about storing personal items? I love the organizational wall between both bedrooms on the outer side where you have a long vertical row of mesh pockets to store camping things like a flashlight, a bug spray, sunscreen, and others.

Can you hang a lantern? Yes, you can, there are loops outside the inner shelter where you can put multiple light sources if you want to illuminate the area.

A zippered power cord access at the bottom of the living room (close to the bedrooms) enables recharging your gadgets.

Air circulation

This is a tent that has a mesh front door and there is a big mesh window in the bedroom back to let the air circulate.

Protection from the weather

The unit has a high HH level (4500 mm) and features a technology called WeatherTec system to provide you a dry and comfortable stay.

The BlackOut bedroom technology will keep your sleeping area a 5° cooler at day and 1° warmer at night due to the absorbed solar energy.

There is an awning above the main doors so the rain can’t get inside easily and make your living room wet.

Inner tent

The inner shelter features dark material for a long night’s sleep. It can be divided into 2 sleep rooms where you can put a double air bed for comfortable sleeping.

It attaches to the pole with the clips. You should get it already attached to the poles.

The simple tunnel construction allows you to have your shelter ready in about 10 minutes. Extend the fabric on the ground.

Peg out the corners of the groundsheet. Assemble the poles that are color-coded for an easier setup process.

Start at the back and insert the pole through the mesh sleeve. Put its ends into the pin and ring system and use a guy line on the back of the unit.

Proceed and lift the unit up by setting all the poles, even the front awning pole. Use guy lines in the front for support.

Clip the fly fabric to the poles. The doors must be closed when you peg out the rest of the tent, also using the reflective ropes.

  • Spacious and durable
  • BlackOut bedrooms
  • Multiroom structure
  • High waterproof rating
  • User-friendly
  • Easy to set up
  • Poor ventilation
  • A lot of guy lines

Coleman 8-Person Montana tent

Coleman 8-Person Tent for Camping | Elite Montana Tent with Easy Setup
  • Spacious 8-person tent has enough room for 3 queen size air beds
  • WeatherTec system with patented corner welds and inverted seams helps keep water out
  • Extended door awning keeps shoes and gear dry; hinged door offers easy access
  • Measures 16 x 7 feet with 6-foot 2-inch center height
  • Quick setup in 15 minutes with carry bag included for easy transportation

This is an Elite Montana model that is selling pretty well on Amazon. This 8-person shelter is an extended dome tent that can accommodate up to 8 people (7 people comfortably).

It measures 16 x 7 feet and has 6 feet 2-inch center height. You can place 3 queen-size air beds inside. This product weighs 24.5 pounds.

The floor is made of welded polyethylene, the most used material to make a groundsheet.

The base is manufactured with polyester that features a 450 mm hydrostatic head, while the roof also features no-see-um mesh. The company included shock-corded fiberglass poles to hold the structure up.

Other details

It has one D-style hinged door to use easily, also due to a cloth hook that you can pull to open them. They have an awning above to stop the rain from falling in.

There is a mat in front of the entrance to leave shoes on. You will be able to use 3 mesh windows with panels; 2 angeled aside (to keep them open in the rain) and one in a door.

You will enter one big room where you can manipulate the space for sleeping and living. There are just 2 normal-sized mesh pockets for item storage and an E-port to have electricity inside. The model has a loop to hang a lighting source on.

This is a Coleman tent for 8 people that doesn’t have superior ventilation but it has mesh windows on the roof and on the upper part of the doors to have some airflow. You can open the door to increase it.

Weather protection

This model is a three-season unit that is appropriate to use on warmer days with rain. It has a quite low waterproof rating (450mm) so I don’t recommend using it in the areas where heavy rain is expected.

Still, it features an awning above the entrance and a rain fly that covers half of the structure, making it a good shelter to use in nice weather.

Lay out the structure on the floor and peg down the corners. Assemble the poles. First, you will install the main tent with the entrance and then the sides.

Put two of the poles into the sleeves so they will crisscross one another. Put their ends into the grommets and lift up the fabric.

When you are done, grab the other poles and insert them into the sleeves on the sides. Stake the rest of the structure.

For the hinged door, you will use the smallest pole and insert it vertically through the sleeve. In case of rain put the fly on and make sure to guy line it so the wind won’t blow it away.

The whole process should take you about 15 minutes if someone helps you.

  • Hinged door
  • Awning
  • Roomy
  • Great for all-around use
  • Doormat
  • Low HH
  • Poor ventilation
  • Lacks pockets
  • No guy line points without the fly on

Coleman Dark Room Cabin Tent with Instant Setup

Coleman Cabin Tent with Instant Setup in 60 Seconds
  • Illumiline reflective guylines for greater visibility at night
  • Instant setup: In as fast as 1 minute
  • 1-year limited warranty

This is an innovative camping tent that can occupy up to 10 people. Its dimensions are 14 x 10 feet with 6 feet and 7 inches center height.

It weighs 42 pounds. You will be able to put 4 queen-size airbeds inside to sleep on. If you are looking for a big shelter that will help you to sleep longer in the morning then this is your winner.

This instant cabin tent is made of double-thick rugged polyguard 2X fabric and comes with the pre-attached steel poles that will take care of the unit’s stability.

It features a durable welded polyethylene floor. There are fiberglass poles to install for the doors.

Other features

The Coleman tent for 10 people has one hinged door and one normal door that lead to each of the bedrooms. There are 5 big mesh windows with zippers and panels to open or close regarding your temporary needs.

E-cable port in the corner of the model will help you to use your favorite gadgets inside. There is also a lantern loop to hang a lantern or other lightning source.

Air circulation

With plenty of mesh on the ceiling and windows, you will have a ventilated unit. However, I would like to see at least one ground vent to provide crisscross ventilation.

Protection from the weather

This is a product that you will be using on the warmer days as it has a lot of mesh and openings.

It has a WeatherTec system like other Coleman tents but I don’t recommend using it in a rainstorm or a downpour as the windows have zippers that could leak in such extreme conditions.

It has a rain fly that covers the meshed roof but not the windows so this is a typical summer shelter. It should withstand up to 35mph winds however it’s a tall structure that won’t like strong winds so try to avoid it.

Dark Room technology

This is a model that has a technology that blocks up to 90% of the sunlight. It’s great for summer when you want to have some shade and when you want to sleep longer in the morning; especially kids.

The interior is quite dark when you close up the structure. It has 2 small storage pockets (one at the back door and another between two side windows) which are not enough for more people to store their necessities in my opinion.

With a lantern loop option, you will be able to read in the evening or find things at night.

Room curtain

The Coleman darkroom tent has an attachable room divider that splits the main room into 2 bedrooms which is nice if you enjoy it with another family or group of friends.

Still, the divider is a curtain that doesn’t cover the sides entirely but does provide basic privacy.

This is an instant shelter, meaning that you will be able to pitch it fast due to pre-attached poles.

Extend the fabric out and lift pole after pole so you will get a tent structure. The next step is to extend the upper and lower poles. Stake its corners.

It is freestanding so you can use it the way it is or place a rain fly on and reflective guy lines it to provide stability in the rain and wind.

Ask someone to help you with the fly. Secure it by attaching it to the grommets at the bottom corners.

Grab that fiberglass pole and install it on the front doors to get a hinged door which is great for easy entrance and exit, and carrying outdoor gear inside without the need to open the doors.

  • Spacious
  • Easy setup
  • Great summer unit
  • Dark Room technology
  • Room divider
  • Good for stargazing
  • Can leak fast in heavy rain
  • No ground vents
  • Lacks pockets
  • Heavy

Coleman Red Canyon Tent

Coleman 8-Person Tent for Camping | Red Canyon Car Camping Tent
  • Camping tent with spacious design offers enough room for 8 people to sleep comfortably
  • Included dividers let you create 3 separate rooms for privacy
  • WeatherTec system with patented welded floors and inverted seams keeps you dry
  • Easy to set up and pack away with separate bags included for tent, poles, and stakes

The Red Canyon tent is one of the largest Coleman creations (170 sq feet interior) that can accommodate up to 8 campers.

It measures 17 x 10 feet and features 72 inches center height which is enough to stand tall inside. Its weight is 22.4 pounds that is impressive for such big shelter.

It is made of durable polyguard material and mesh so it is meant for using it on warmer days without extra rain. The model features shock-corded fiberglass poles.

Other specifications

This family tent has only one door but it is positioned in the center so everyone has a close exit. The door has a zipper cuff to protect from leaks.

The structure includes quite a lot of mesh windows with panels if you also consider the ceiling and the upper part of the doors.

A gear loft is included in the center of the unit. Two small mesh pockets are included on each side of the unit. A loop at the center can be used for hanging a lantern.

With plenty of mesh openings (2 large windows and a door) and a ceiling, this is a well-ventilated model that also has a vented cool-air port at its back. There is a gap between the outer and inner material so the air can come in.

It’s a 3-season tent which means you shouldn’t use it in cold temperatures that accompany snow and wind. The Red Canyon is a basic summer unit that will provide a pleasant nature trip in nice weather with some rain.

The bathtub floor is patented and welded and seams inverted to provide a dry experience. A fly is partial as it covers the mesh ceiling and half of the structure. I like the small awning in front of the door so the rain can’t sip in.

The family outdoor shelter can be divided into 3 rooms for sleeping and resting in privacy. The company included 2 room curtains that attaches to the loops on the fabric.

With it you will also get a rope that can be used as a laundry line.

There is just one issue to expose. When you put a divider on to get a room at the back of the structure, you won’t be able to have a queen air mattress fully hidden as the curtain will get in the way.

However, you can put a twin-size mattress and the problem is solved.

How to pitch this extended dome family tent? First, get all the parts from the storage bag and lay them on the ground so you can see them. Take the main fabric and extend it on the floor where you want to set it up. Stake it out.

Assemble the black, gray, and red poles together so you will be able to insert them through the sleeves. Grab the two red ones and insert them through the sleeves on the roof area so they will crisscross one another.

Their ends must end into the ring system at the bottom. Then take the two gray ones and put them on each side of the structure to get extended parts.

Installing the rain fly on

Put a fly on and attach it properly to the ring system to have it stabilized. You have left with the 2 black poles that you insert through the sleeves of the fly at the backside and frontside to get small awnings.

When you have done this put their ends into the product’s holes (look under the awning to see them on the base).

Stabilize it

Install the guy ropes so the fly will be stable and the air will be circulating. Open the floor vent at the backside as well. Use black tabs to adjust the ropes for the tightness you want.

  • Tall and spacious
  • Two-room dividers (for 3 rooms)
  • Two awnings
  • Bathtub floor
  • Plenty of mesh
  • Great value for the price
  • Poles could snap easily
  • Side windows can’t be totally closed
  • Only one door

Coleman Hooligan Backpacking Tent

The Coleman Hooligan model is made to occupy up to 3 people (ideally 2 men) on their camping journey. It features a dome shape and has dimensions of 8 x 7 feet plus 58 inches center height.

It weighs 11.8 pounds and packs small (4 x 15.25 x 24.5 inches) so it is a good option if you are going outdoors with someone else. You will be able to fit 3 pads inside for rest.

This dome unit is made of two layers – the fly and inner fabric. The fly is manufactured with 75-denier polyester taffeta while the inner fabric includes 68-denier polyester mesh.

The body has a 1000 mm waterproof rating to protect you from the rain. The floor is made of tough 1,000-denier polyethylene. The company included 11 mm fiberglass poles.

Other specs

This product has a double zipped door. You enter the vestibule through one (can be rolled away) and proceed into the interior through the mesh one.

Doors and mesh windows enable airflow, views, and stargazing. There are 2 mesh pouches where you are able to store small things that you will need often.

Air flow

The inner fabric features mesh to let the air circulate. To increase the airflow you can open the doors and open the roof vent that I like the most on this product.

On the top of the tent, you will see a mesh that you can open from the inside and set up a vent that will enable the hot air to escape out.

Weather protection

This is one of the best Coleman tents for rain that is quite good at keeping the moisture out.

It has a full-coverage rainfly and a big vestibule to protect your entrance additionally, plus keeping your shoes and gear dry and away from the sleeping area. With a 1000 mm HH the fly will handle light to normal rain.

If you like to have your gear stored in a different place than in a bedroom then you should consider this model.

A big and fully-covered vestibule will keep your gear dry while you can cook a meal over a backpacking stove in it while not to mess the interior.

It features a conventional 15-minute setup. Assemble the poles and extend the fabric out on the floor. Grab stakes and stabilize the fabric on the ground.

Insert both poles through the sleeves making an X and put their ends into the rings at the bottom.

If you see the rain coming put a fly on. Make sure it is attached to the frame with Velcro’s. When you have it done, take a pole and insert it through the sleeve of the fly to get a vestibule.

Extend the front side of the vestibule and use guy ropes to have a secure shelter.

  • Full-coverage rainfly
  • Big vestibule
  • Snag-free pole sleeves
  • Water-resistant
  • Nice roof vent with mesh
  • Good value for the money
  • Too heavy for backpacking
  • Not for camping in cold temperatures
  • No loop for hanging a lantern

You will enter the porch through the mesh T-style door that unzips all the way down and aside. The second mesh D-style door is placed at the entrance of the bedroom.

The zippers are of good quality and run smoothly. The bedroom has 2 windows (one on each side) that you can open.

Two mesh pockets are hanging in the sleeping room to put small things inside. The company included a hook on the center so you will be able to have an illuminated place in the evening for reading or other stuff.

If you get this one you will be able to use a porch area (10 x 5 ft.) and a sleeping room (10 x 9 ft.). A porch is all meshed and has a floor to enjoy in the summer afternoon with your family while you eat or relax.

Still, you will have to get inside the bedroom in case the rain surprises you as the mesh won’t protect you. I like that the floor of the porch has drain holes so the rainwater can get out quickly.

The bedroom has two windows to let the light in and to use them for ventilation.

This is a typical shelter to use in the first three seasons of the year since it has a lot of mesh through the whole structure (especially the porch area).

Still, it does have a rain fly that covers most of the dome structure and the roof of the porch (but not the sides).

I like the fly covering the windows so you can open the panels of the windows and let the air in even if it’s raining.

This is a product that is best to use on warmer sunny days. However, it has a fly that covers the main part of the shelter and the roof of the porch pretty well and at the same time enables air to come into the bedroom.

The porch isn’t fully protected from the precipitation as the rainwater can sip through the mesh sides.

Air circulation

The Evanston is a well-ventilated unit with a smart fly design that enables air in and rain out with the windows open. There is also a big vent in the bedroom back. The porch is fully-ventilated since it is made of mesh.

Layout the material and stake the corners. Assemble the poles and insert the longest ones through the fabric sleeves.

Put their ends into the rings at the bottom of the fabric. Attach the material to the pole frame with provided clips (Coleman’s InstaClip suspension).

Now you are ready to lift up the porch. Grab the last pole and install it through the sleeve on the porch material. Secure its ends by placing them in the rings.

You can place a fly on and secure it with Velcro’s and guy lines. Put the last pole on the top of the dome tent so you will be able to have windows open in case of rain. Stake the rest of the unit.
