How do you choose a hiking boot?

When looking for footwear for hiking you must take time and find the pair that will fit your feet perfectly.

I am sure you don’t want to have sore feet and blisters so review the boots carefully. What features should you consider when buying new footwear?

These are a few things that you must look into before buying them.

Size and fit

It is very important that you get a pair of shoes that fit you properly if you want to remain comfortable as you hike.

The model that you get should fit your feet perfectly and it shouldn’t be several sizes too large or too small. The right-sized footwear will provide you the right foot and ankle protection.

The weight

Heavy boots will make it difficult for you to walk for long distances and light ones may not offer better protection from falling objects and sharp objects on the ground.

You should, therefore, get ones that are light in weight and made of strong material.

You should also consider getting waterproof ones if you anticipate downpours when walking.

They will prevent water from getting into the footwear and possible blisters and ensure that you are comfortable for the entire time.

If you expect a rainy day then you will also need a waterproof jacket so elements won’t end your enjoyable adventure.

Breathable material

Footwear made of breathable fabric will keep your feet aerated and this will prevent sweat from building up. If you buy unbreathable ones you can get blisters very fast if the moisture can’t escape out.

Should I buy hiking shoes or boots?

This is a common question that I get many times from future hikers. You should pick hiking shoes if you are going on a trail where the terrain isn’t so rough.

They are more appropriate to be in if you are going on a short hike in nice weather. Shoes are lighter, don’t require breaking in, dries quickly, and are easy to pack.

Choosing the boots

Choose the ones if you are going on a long hike where the terrain is rough. This way your feet will be protected from the elements better, your ankles will have the needed support, and you will feel warm in them.

Boots are more durable than shoes and have better traction.

Can I use hiking boots for walking?

You can wear them for walking yes but you will need to break them in first. They are durable, withstand bad weather, and offer good ankle support.

If you will use your boots also for walking around the house and when you go to the town I suggest you opt for a lighter pair of footwear.

Hiking is a pleasurable outdoor activity but without the right shoes, you will not enjoy yourself out there and end your expedition with a long face.

The right hiking footwear doesn’t have to be expensive and this is why I wrote this article that highlights the best hiking boots under $100.

Consider the features that I have mentioned and don’t forget about the size and weight of the footwear when you are picking it for yourself or as a gift for your loved ones.
