Best screen tents for camping
Do you have nice warm weather and thinking of inviting your loved ones camping?
Great, as all that you need to have is a spacious mesh shelter with the roof to enjoy the summer breeze with the ones you love the most.
Here are the models that are worthy to consider for the outdoor trip.
Coleman Instant Screenhouse
The first model is an instant screen room from the well-known Coleman brand that measures 15 x 13 feet. This size can fit up to 6 people comfortably inside.
This is a hexagon freestanding screen room and one of the best portable screen houses for camping available for you to have. It provides a hassle-free setup due to instant pitching. The product weighs 18.24 pounds.
The roof is made of UVGuard heavy-duty 150D poly oxford canopy material that provides 50+ UV protection. The no-see-um mesh features 2X double-thick Polyguard fabric.
The frame is manufactured with heavy-duty footed steel poles (28 mm) which will provide easy securing and sturdy and stable construction when the weather changes.
The Coleman screen house tent for camping offers 2 large zippered doors, one on each side for easy entrance and exit.
Insects won’t have a chance to join your party as the thick mesh won’t let them enter no matter how good the food smells from inside.
The Coleman mesh model includes a hook on the center so you can hang a lantern in the evening and prolong your party. This shelter doesn’t come with a floor like many other screen shelters.
It is quite easy to set up this camping screen house as it’s an instant tent. Grab the shelter and put it on the ground, with extended corners and stitched poles.
Now go ahead and lift each leg pole so it will stand by its own (not a fully extendable pole). Then go to the other side and repeat the process.
The second step is to extend the upper part of the poles since they are telescoping. Extend all four poles to get a standing structure.
You can easily lift it up with someone and place it in another location as it is a freestanding unit. It can be pegged down with steel pegs.
If you want to walk on a non-grassy floor you can purchase a groundsheet that will also protect you from the rainwater.

This is an Alvantor instant screen house tent that is one of the company’s best-sellers and one of the best screen tents with rain flops on the market.
The model I am presenting measures 6 x 6 x 6.5 feet but you can also choose another size on Amazon. The 6 x 6 model can occupy up to 3 adults comfortably. It is lightweight as it has only 9 pounds.
It is one of the best pop up screen tent with floor if you purchase their heavy-duty floor (scroll down to check it).
The company included fiberglass poles in this unit. The hexagonal screen house has 4 extra-trifling mesh netting walls and a non-waterproof 210D oxford roof that provides an all-day UPF 50+ UV protection against the burning sun.
It also makes the product more durable and crack-protective. The shelter doesn’t have a floor.
You can enter through one large door that has double side silicone zipper that you can use from the inside or outside. It has jacket hooks to hang clothes, lanterns, or whatever suits you.
Four elongated sandbags included making your shelter more stable in the wind, still don’t use it if the wind reaches level 6. You can set them outside or hang them in the corners from the inside on the hooks.
The package also includes guylines and metal mounting stakes. What I like in this model are the ground flaps that go around the unit so the wind can’t lift the fabric to invite bugs in.
Purchasing the floor
If you don’t like to walk on grass or wanting to have a clean interior you can purchase the company’s heavy-duty waterproof tarp that will keep your interior dry and clean in the case of rain.
In case you will buy a 10 x 10 model this tarp will fit inside too.
This is a pop-up screen house that sets up instantly. You will get your product in a round package. Open it and grab the fabric out.
It will open on its own, all that you have to do is to extend it to have the perfect shape. Stake it and put sandbags on if you want to secure it additionally.

Here is one of the best screen tent canopies for camping from the E-T UP brand that can be used in different ways. Its dimensions are 111 x 111 x 76 inches and have a space for 6 people. The weight of this product is 18 pounds.
The E-Z UP 10 X 10 camping cube is made of mesh walls, an enclosed ceiling, and floors with mesh doors to protect you from unwanted visitors. It meets CPAI-84 and NFPA-701 fire-resistant requirements.
This is a multi-use screen tent with a floor if you get a canopy too. Then you can use only a canopy (must buy separately) for shade or a canopy with the mesh house to provide bug-free enjoyment on the open.
The product has one large door with heavy-duty zippers to easily enter and exit the model.
There are plenty of ring attachment points (25x) for lanterns and hanging objects. You will also have E-port access where you can insert an electrical cable through and listen to the radio inside or recharge your gadgets.
I like the dog portal that is found at the right corner of the structure as a dog can easily access or exit the shelter without your help. This is wonderful news for all of you who are going family camping with a dog.
Here are the E-Z UP Vantage instant shelter canopy and the gear loft that you can purchase along with the screen cube tent.
Vantage instant canopy
If you want to use the screen cube house then you should also buy one of the canopies that E-Z UP sells as shelters. You can choose among the next models that measure 10 x 10 feet that you will attach the cube on:
Do you want to have a space to store your small essentials so you will see them all the time while camping? I recommend getting a gear loft that will fit on the provided hooks found inside.
It measures 40 x 29 x 40 inches and can be hanged on different hooks under the roof. There are also adjustable slide tensioners to find the perfect length.
First, assemble the canopy that you bought. The whole point is to insert legs to all four corners, extend them and lift the canopy up. Now you are ready to fit floored screen house inside.
Now take the package and get the mesh unit out of the bag. Put it under the center of the canopy and attach its center to the canopy’s center frame with straps.
Make sure that you use all the straps. Don’t forget to secure the cube to the canopy’s legs as well.

If you want to enjoy your tailgating party or summer camping consider this Wenzel screen house. The product has floor dimensions of 11 ft. x 9 ft., and a peak height of 90 inches.
The interior area provides 99 square feet of space which is enough to put a table and chairs inside. It fits about 6 people comfortably. The weight of the model is 17.44 pounds.
Wenzel made this tent of 68D polyester Taffeta and 68D see-through mesh to provide ventilation without creatures. The model is lifted with steel and fiberglass poles making the structure strong and reliable.
It features 2 doors that have magnetic strip lines. They make using the doors easier and more convenient since the bugs won’t have a chance to get in because the magnets will close the entrance.
The doors measure 40 inches in width. You will be able to walk inside freely.
It is freestanding which means that you don’t need to stake it to stand (but I still recommend it). Both entrances include a mat. No floor included.
The setup should take you about 10 minutes or so. It is easy to set up due to steel uprights, and a shock-corded fiberglass roof frame that is combined with fast feet. So, how do you do it?
Spread the fabric on the ground. Grab the steel leg poles and attach them to the material with the clips and put its ends into the grommets at the bottom.
The legs will have connectors at the top to put the fiberglass poles in for the roof.
Take each of the roof poles and assemble them. Now take one and insert it through the roof sleeve and put its end into the connector.
Repeat with the other pole so both poles will crisscross each other. Till now you will have your tent standing.
You still have one silver pole left that you assemble and insert through the sleeve above the doors so the structure will stand secure. Stake the whole structure (also both doormats) and guy line it for extra stability.
Here is a video that shows what is the best feature of this product; the bugs won’t have a chance to enter so fast!

- Mesh side walls allows ventilation while providing a bug barrier
- Extra tall center and straight Side walls allow more room to stand up and add tables and chairs
- Fully equipped with large center zip door and tie backs, storage bag, guy ropes and steel stakes
- Base size: 10' X 12', center height: 7'4, total weight: 17 lbs. 14 oz.
Do you know Browning Camping brand? They make one of the best tents for camping. Here you have a screen camping tent that measures 10′ X 12′ and has a center height of 7’4 inch.
The product weighs 17 lbs. 14 oz. This model is perfect if you will enjoy with three people but you could fit another person or two in without a hassle.
It is one of the best small-screen tents. A table and four chairs will easily fit inside.
The waterproof roof of this freestanding screen structure is manufactured with 68D 190T polyester, and mesh. It features a steel/fiberglass pole combination for the frame.
The steel leg poles are 16 mm wide while the roof fiberglass ones are 9.5 mm wide.
You will enter the interior through one of the 2 zippered doors. The zippers go all the way down to prevent insects from entering.
Standing tall won’t be an issue. The entrances can be moved aside with the help of the straps. No floor included.
An O-ring attachment point can be found on the center of the roof to hang a lantern to illuminate the place when it becomes dark.
Very good bug protection
What I like the most is how the bottom of the walls are made.
Some models let the wind open the bottom of the walls which isn’t a good idea since the mosquitoes and other small animals just waiting to enter your party. This model has the bottom closed, so no bug problems here.
The roof is a little bent at the corners which will give you more shade than other flat-roof tents. The prolonged roof corners will also provide better rain protection so it is considered as one of the best screen tents for rain.
You will get this shelter ready in no time. The process is easy due to color-coded poles and hub design. These are the steps to follow.
First, lay out the fabric. Grab the steel leg poles and attach them to the material using clips. Put their ends into the grommets. I am sure that someone can help you as you won’t camp alone.
When you have this done, it is time that you assemble the fiberglass poles. Insert them through the roof sleeves and don’t forget to use all of them. The poles are connected with the connectors.
The last thing to do is to stake the structure out and use guy ropes to stabilize it.
DALTACK Screen House
Daltack screen house is one of the best screen room tents that has dimensions of 10 by 10 feet, while the center height is 80 inches that is enough to walk inside. It can accommodate 8 people max.
This Daltack model has a roof that is made of durable 190 T polyester canopy top while walls feature mesh for insect protection and breeze.
The roof has UPF 50 rating. The unit includes high-grade 9.5 mm shock-corded fiberglass poles to hold the structure up.
The screen camping tent has one double-zippered door that can be widely open to carry the furniture inside. I like that zippers go all the way down so the insects don’t have a chance to enter the interior.
There is a hook on the center of the structure to hang a lantern or something else that will come in handy. The storage bag is light and measures 25.6 x 5.5 x 5.5 inches so you can easily carry the bag to your destination.
The assembly of this unit is not demanding. Lay the fabric out on the floor. Prepare the fiberglass poles and insert them through the roof sleeves.
You should get crisscrossed poles. Now grab the connectors and put them on the end of the poles.
Now it’s time to place legs on. There are four of them to be inserted into the connectors. Place the pole legends into the pin and ring system. In the finish, stake it out by pulling the corners out a little bit. You are ready to enjoy inside.
What are screen houses?
Screen houses have tall mesh walls and a canopy roof to protect from insects and elements. They usually have doors with zippers so no mosquito or other insect can get in.
These mesh units are ideal for summer camping, campground camping, beach camping, or a backyard party where you can put a table and chairs in for a barbeque feast.
What is a screen house used for?
As you see these shelters are made of mesh and have a synthetic roof. So, where and when can you use these units? As they are highly-ventilated and bug-free products, you can use them:
- Camping (beach, campgrounds, etc.)
- Backyards (parties, BBQ-ing, for kid’s play, etc.)
- Tailgate parties
Where and when shouldn’t you use them?
These are not heavy-duty units as the mesh is more gentle and rips faster than synthetic or canvas material. Manufacturers use mesh to provide ventilation and prevent condensation when making ordinary camping tents.
However, camper screen tents are made to use in the hottest and sunny weather. They provide shade and airflow so you can have a more pleasurable outdoor free time.
So, when should you avoid taking this kind of shelter to an outdoor adventure?
- Heavy rain and storms
- Cold temperatures
- Winter conditions (snow, wind)
- If you want privacy
Almost no bad weather protection
Screen houses won’t protect you if you expect a rainstorm or if you intend to go outdoors in areas where rain is often.
I also don’t recommend using it in the wintertime since it won’t provide warmth nor needed weather protection (rain and snow will enter the mesh screen walls fast).
It would be stupid to bring one on a mountain expedition trip but I am sure you know that by now.
Most of the models on the list will protect you inside from the light rain as the waterproof roof will intercept the rainwater from sipping on your head.
As they are built of mesh that you can see through, they won’t provide enough privacy. So think twice before bringing a screen model to the campground for sleeping.
On this point, I should say that some brands offer sidewalls to block the sun from the side or to prevent fellow campers to see what you are doing inside.
Do screen tents work?
I will tell you when they are meant to be used and when not. Screen tents are good to use outdoors when there are hot temperatures as mesh will offer you enough ventilation.
They are breathable but don’t let the annoying animals in like mosquitos and other flying insects.
These house tents are tall structures that enable standing tall inside, eating a meal, and relaxing on your favorite chair. I use one for barbeque parties and they are serving me very well (even when the rain surprises me).
Not good for?
So, when are they not appropriate to use? They aren’t good to use in strong winds since they are standing tall, in winter since the mesh walls won’t protect you from the cold temperatures and snow, and on a backpacking trip as they can be heavy and bulky to store.
Can you camp in a screen house?
Yes, of course you can since they are spacious and tall to help you feel comfortable.
As I said before, screen houses are perfect for camping in hot temperatures, picnics and beach camping because they offer element and bug protection plus space to put your favorite furniture inside to relax.
You can spend a night in one and also place some mats or sleeping bags inside for a better sleeping experience.
As they have a roof you will be protected from the rain as well and have a dry shelter. Still, this tent isn’t good for heavy rain since it can fall from aside and get your interior wet, so bear this in mind.
Can you cook in a screen tent?
If the model doesn’t have a floor then you can easily cook over a portable cooking stove or another electrical cooking device to feed your crew.
These shelters are tall and wide so you will be able to cook at the center of the shelter to not burn it down. You can also use a fire-resistant mat inside if your model will have a floor to prevent floor damage.
Can you put a screen house on a deck?
Yes of course, why not. You just need to pay attention to the size of both structures, so the structure will fit on the deck.
When you can’t go camping in nature you can put it on the deck of your backyard to hang out and offer a chance for kids to play.
How do you fold up a pop-up screen tent?
The process of folding it is the opposite procedure of unfolding it. So, if you know how it unfolds you will have an easier task to fold it. I recommend that you take a look if the manufacturer gave some instructions on how to do it.
If you won’t have any help then I suggest that you try to fold it by pushing one of the poles to the center and then grabbing the other pole and folding it to the center as well till you fold all the sides.
You can try to go to the YouTube and find a folding process of your model to see the exact steps. Another tip; picture folded screen tent before you will open it for the first time; it will make your task easier.
Here is a video where a man is folding the Alvantor pop-up screen house model. It should give you a clue on how to do it by yourself.
Who makes the best screen tent?
There are some good screen tent manufacturers but I had no issues with picking the best manufacturer in the game. It is the Alvantor company from Southern California, USA.
They are making one of the best-rated screen tents from 2011 that provides a bug-protected place to spend your free time on your patio or on camping.

What is the best screen house?
I just love the Campros screen house that measures 13×13 feet. With 134 square feet of shaded space and a center height of 86 inches, you will be fully enjoying your free time with the people you love.
The top material is made of 190T polyester that provides good UV protection. It has a large zippered door that can be rolled aside. The door will enable you to carry your favorite camping furniture inside. It doesn’t have a floor.
The setup isn’t demanding as you insert the poles and let someone help you to lift the structure up. The setup process should take you around 10 minutes.
What is the best screen tent?
Here you have a Superrella Screen tent that is budget-friendly and provides a shaded space for 6-8 people.
It is manufactured with 190T polyester with UV protection. The roof is waterproof (1500mm-2000mm HH). The model features high-grade fiberglass poles.
I like the two T-shape doors that close all the way down. You can use 2 hanging hooks on both sides and place some lanterns in the evening to make a romantic atmosphere.
How to patch a hole in a screen tent?
I advise you to bring one of the best screen tent camping kits available on the market that will help you to patch a hole in the mesh fabric.
I recommend getting the Gear Aid tenacious tape mesh patches so you will quickly repair the damage on your own in a minute.
