The brand included a footprint in the package which will prolong the product’s lifetime. This model has only one zipper to open or close the door.
With the storage compartments inside your camping accessories will be organized. One of the pockets can be used for a headlamp or other light source to have illumination in the evening.
Doors and airflow

If you will take your family outdoors then here you have an Evanston model from Coleman that can occupy up to 6 members. Its floor dimensions are 10 x 9 feet while its porch provides additional 10 x 5 feet of space.
It weighs 20.9 pounds so it is meant for a family who is going camping with a vehicle. The Evanston model has a center height of 5 feet 8 inches which is enough to stand up.
This unit is manufactured by 75D polyester taffeta. The floor is made of tarp-type material that can handle some weather protection.
It includes fiberglass poles that are not so sturdy but with proper care, they can last for a long time.
If an accident happens and you break one of those you can fix it without replacing it with a new one.
There are one big entrance door and 2 windows that can be rolled down for more ventilation and great views. This model has a lot of mesh.
A screen room with its meshed doors will help you to prevent condensation and to have a bug-free outdoor time.
There are two small mesh pockets so you can store essentials but it could have more of them or bigger regarding that this is a family tent. You will be able to attach a lantern or a flashlight on the hook provided on the center roof part.
This three-season camping model features welded corners and inverted seams to protect you from rainwater. A bathtub design floor also helps in case it starts to rain.
Coleman company is well-known for its WeatherTec technology system that has four waterproof elements to protect as you expect precipitation.
With the wind-strong frame, taped seams, zipper protection, and floor with welding-inspired technology you shouldn’t worry about leakage.
The rain fly is included but it’s not a full-coverage one. It makes a roof for the main tent but the screen room isn’t covered with it.
It has roof vents to increase air circulation on a rainy day. The porch will get wet if you don’t cover it with a tarp.
A screen porch
Coleman made a screen porch for this unit so you can enjoy and cool yourself on sunny days. It is nothing better than cooking on a porch and relaxing in a camp chair when getting some vitamin D.
It is also a good place to put a dog sleeping gear here so he can have his own place for sleeping.
Its setup should take you about 15 minutes thanks to snag-free, continuous pole sleeves and insta-clip pole attachments. So, how to do it?
Extend the fabric and stake the structure out. Take fiberglass poles and thread them into the pole sleeves. They will crisscross one another.
Now the tricky part. Slowly bend one pole and put its end to the grommets found on the floor corners. When you are done with both you will get a tent structure.
Now put the last pole in the front porch part through the sleeve and secure it in the grommets.
Put a rain fly on, secure it and your are ready for the adventure. Use guy lines in case of wind.

If you are going on a solo expedition with your pooch then take a look at the Ayamaya backpacking model. It can accommodate you and your dog in a shelter that has 86.6 x 55.1 inches floor size.
This dome unit has 47.2 inches center height and it weighs 5.7 pounds so you will be able to carry it in a backpack.
The groundsheet is made of 210D oxford fabric that includes a 2000 mm polyurethane waterproof coating. It features 190T polyester fly with the same HH rating as the floor.
The inner fabric includes 190T polyester and B3 no-see-um mesh for ventilation. The shelter features 7.9mm 7001 aluminum pole star construction.
This Ayamaya’s lightweight model has 2 vestibules (8 feet) so storing all of your gear won’t be an issue. This is a two-layer tent, meaning that it has an inner and outer fabric for versatile use.
It has a hook to hang a lantern for a late evening read and a small mesh pouch for storing small items.
It has 2 D-shape doors for a simple enter/exit. They can be rolled aside. With two of them, you will also have a faster-ventilated tent. The air circulation is increased with a large mesh window on the doors.
If it starts raining, you can open the two of the fly roof vents and decrease the condensation.
This is a simple backpacking structure that you will use in three ways. You have an option to use only a ventilation tent, a waterproof version with a fly on or a shade unit providing plenty of breeze.
A fly and heat-sealed seams will protect you from normal rain. A fly is covering the whole structure, leaving a small gap between it and the ground.
Layout the fabric on the flat ground. Grab a pole construction and assemble the poles to a star construction. Place it on the center of the fabric and attach tent material to the construction using the clips.
Put their ends into the grommets to secure the structure. Put a rain fly on if you need to and stake it out.
Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent
This is a Wenzel three-season model that can occupy up to 8 people. It is made of two rooms. You can put 5 people in the bedroom and 3 in the porched area to spend the night.
The Klondike model measures 16-feet by 11-feet and has 6.5 feet of headroom that is enough to stand inside. The Wenzel creation is a family camp equipment that weighs 29.7 pounds.
The flysheet is manufactured by Weather Armor fabric with a waterproof coating, while the floor features welded polyethylene.
The frame of the product includes shock-corded fiberglass poles on the top and steel poles at the bottom. The poles are connected with corner elbows for extra strength.
The most attractive feature of this model is a big mesh porch that has 60 square feet of space for relaxing, cooking, kids playing, and space where you can put your pet to sleep. It has a T-style door that can be easily opened and attached aside.
There is a big O-door with a panel between the sleeping room and screen room so a pet can come to you if he needs to.
It can’t be detached but you will be able to roll it and place it in a mesh pocket. A screen room has plenty of mesh so your dog can breathe normally inside.
The walls have panels so you can close the area for more privacy. They can be unzipped but you won’t be able to secure them with ties. You will have to roll them and tuck them inside.
The zippers on the doors are quite sturdy. The main tent has 2 big windows with panels for privacy to will provide light inside. It also features a hook to hang a light on and two big pockets at the door to store personal items.
Forget the bugs from coming inside due to a full mesh roof and two mesh windows that also take care of optimum airflow.
The company included a rear mesh vent at the bottom to boost the ventilation and to place an AC machine for an even more comfortable outdoor experience. How wonderful is that?
How about its resistance to water?
The Klondike unit is meant to use in the first three seasons of the year, meaning it’s not appropriate to use in wintertime.
However, it can handle normal rain shower due to double-stitched, lap-felled seams and a fly that covers the roof.
Water repellency applications are used on critical areas as threads, zippers, and webbing to protect you in case of bad weather. The product incorporates a bathtub bottom floor to stop rainwater from sipping in.
Get the tent out of the storage bag and place its parts on the ground. Layout the fabric with the corners apart. Attach the poles together.
Hold the longest two poles and insert them through the roof sleeves. Tie them with the cloth at the top center.
Then you will have to insert the other steel ones so you will get the structure standing. Use the connection points to attach them to the fiberglass ones. Put the ends of the steel poles into the ring system to secure them in place.
Now you are ready to install the porch. Grab the shorter fiberglass pole and insert it through the sleeve of the porch area. Get the porch standing by placing two steel poles at the sides. Stake the model.

A pop-up tent from Hui Lingyang offers space for 4-6 people with dimensions of 2.5 x 8.5 feet. This is a model that will perfectly fit 3 people with sleeping pads and a dog or 2 adults + 2 kids and a dog. However, I don’t recommend it for 6 adults as you would be crowded inside while laying.
The center height of this unit is 53.5 inches which is an okay height for this type of shelter. Its pack weight is 11.68 pounds.
The unit’s material is 190T polyester that has a coating of 3000-4000 mm. The floor is manufactured by 210D Oxford which is woven and coated with different synthetic coatings to provide waterproofness. The floor includes a 3000 mm polyurethane waterproof index.
This popup tent has two rooms. One is a big sleeping room while you have an anteroom or a vestibule before it. It’s a doggy-friendly model since you can put your pooch in the anteroom or even in the sleeping room to feel safer beside you.
Two-way zippers enable easy operation from the inside or outside of the shelter. This easy-to-pitch tent also has an opening for electric cable so you will have the ability to recharge your gadgets with ease.
Two integrated storage pockets are there to have small essentials at hand. A hook will take care of illumination.
The model is made of two layers. You will have to put an outer layer and then the inner tent where you will sleep and rest. The inner layer attaches with the hooks to the pole of the outer tent to provide a firm structure.
It includes mesh windows with panels and mesh doors to provide ventilation. This model also has rear hooded vents so the air can circulate.
The front door can be opened and used as an awning for having a shade to relax or prepare a meal. Your pup will love it too. The awning can be installed with poles. You can also just roll the doors aside so they won’t bother you.
Considering its two layers it will protect you from the rain and wind better than one-layer tent. It has quite high waterproof rating, sealed seams (not the vestibule area) to stay protected from the leakage.
If you don’t want to mess with installing the poles, fly, and other tent parts then you will love this bad boy. It assembles in seconds thanks to the pre-assembled poles and pop-up ability.
So how is it erected? Grab the product out of the storage bag and throw it in the air, that’s it. It is a freestanding unit that doesn’t need staking to be prepared for your enjoyment.
How to fold it back?
What about folding it? Here is a video that will help you to understand how to fold a Hui Lingyang pop up tent. The folding steps are at the end of the video (at 2:26).

The Kazoo Saturn 4-person camping tent will provide you space and comfort for your family vacation. With the dimensions of 10 ft x 9.18 ft x 6.07 ft, it is a decent cabin unit for 4 people.
You will be able to fit 4 sleeping pads inside. The weight of this product is 17.6 pounds which means that you will have to pack it in a car or other 4-wheel vehicle to transport it.
It is a great 3-season freestanding tent to enjoy the warm weather camping days with your loved ones.
This double-layer model features high-performance 7001 aluminum poles integrated with the fabric that are 19 mm thick which makes them quite durable, light, and strong.
The inner material is manufactured with 190T breathable polyester and B3 mesh. The rain fly (outer layer) is made of 210T ripstop polyester coated with a 3000 mm waterproof coating which is okay for normal to moderate rain.
I like the small vestibule to store the gear and prepare a sleeping spot for your pet friend. It is equipped with a gear loft to store some of your gear and mesh interior pockets to store a phone, flashlight or keys.
Doors and windows
This Kazoo model features 2 D-shape doors that can be rolled aside when you want to view nature or ventilate the interior. There are two meshed windows on the sides with panels that you can close or open outside the shelter.
Quality SBS zippers
The company included SBS dual zippers that are one of the best zippers in the world. They work smoothly and should last for years without getting stuck.
The outer doors can be used as an awning for relaxing in the fresh air under the shade while the sun is shining strong. It is installed with the poles that come in the package so you don’t have to buy ones.
This automatic cabin tent has quite good ventilation features. The inner fabric has plenty of mesh on the walls and roof so it is also great for stargazing at night. Two large mesh doors increase the airflow additionally.
The fly is coated to protect you from leakage and goes all the way down to the ground to withstand the wind as well. It has a high bathtub floor construction and sealed seams to provide extra weather protection.
This is an automatic or instant tent which means that it already has poles integrated in the fabric. So, how do you erect it?
Take it out of the storage bag. Place it where you want to pitch it and extend its four corners as the center hub stays up. Now you extend the poles by lifting the structure up.
Poles are telescoping so you will have to extend them to get a tent shape. Use stakes to secure it from the bad weather. In case of rain, put a fly on and secure it with provided buckles to the main fabric.
Tie the fabric to the poles where you see the hanging cloth. Use guy lines if you need to and install the awning if you want to have a shade in front of the entrance.

This is a cabin unit from Core Equipment outdoor brand, that is perfect for family camping with a dog. It measures 17ft x 12ft and has 86 inches center height which enables you to walk inside.
Its pack weight is 36.24 pounds, so it is appropriate for car camping. It fits three queen air mattresses.
This 2-room tent is made of durable 68D polyester while the floor is manufactured by durable 115gsm P.E. What about poles? It comes with the steel and fiberglass poles.
The package includes 2 main fiberglass roof poles, 4 perimeter ones, one that goes in the front for making a screen room, 4 steel poles for main room, and 2 steel ones to support the porch.
It is large so you will be able to have enough space for sleeping, cooking, kids playing, and relaxing inside. There are two rooms, first is the screen porch and second the main sleeping room.
This room provides enough space for comfortable sleeping. You can put inflatable mattresses and pillows inside.
It features 3 large windows that have panels to provide privacy and weather protection. Two bottom vents are on each side to control condensation.
The porch measures 8′ (front) x 9′ (back) x 7′ (width). It is meshed all the way, providing you enough air when you enjoy drinking a morning coffee on a sunny summer day. The mesh door can be rolled at a side at day when you want to have a view.
This area is perfect for relaxing through the day, cooking and eating, playing with kids, and keeping your animal safe from the bad weather and mosquitoes.
A storage area with the hook in the center will help you to store some of the gear and to illuminate the place.
Mesh storage pockets close to the door are handy to store a phone and other personal items that you need to have at hand. It features a fully-closable port for the electrical cord.
Protection from the weather
The most important feature to stress out is the CORE H20 Block Technology that protects you on a rainy day. What does it include?
If you buy this tent you will get a 600 mm polyurethane coating, thermally sealed seams, and inverted stitching that adds multiple protection layers.
The rain fly covers the roof so it’s not a full-coverage one but it offers minimum rain protection in the first three seasons of the year.
With a lots of mesh material, ground vents and large windows and doors you shouldn’t have issues with providing fresh air inside the place and to stop condensation.
You have set up directions on the storage beg to help you with the process. Poles are color-coded so the process isn’t demanding. However, here are the short setup steps.
Place everything out from the storage bag to have it all visible. Layout the tent fabric on the flat ground. Place two long black poles in the roof sleeves. Do the same with vertical gray poles and thread them through the roof sleeves.
Now take the 4 joints out of the bag and place the black long poles in the center of the joint. Tie the fabric’s straps at the center of the structure to keep the poles at the center.
Put the gray poles into the joints that are free (there will be a black pole in the center of the joint). Now use the steel poles and make the structure stand up.
Put the ends of the poles into the grommets and use clips to snap them around the poles.
Setting up the porch
Take the orange pole and thread it through the orange sleeve at porch area and put its ends into an elbow connector. Insert the legs into the connector as well so your porch will be standing straight.
Stake it down. Put the rain fly on and stake it with the strings to secure it. Use the provided clips to secure it on the poles. The sign CORE must be at the top of the doors.
Bessport 2-3 Person Tent
This is a nice backpacking product for you and your doggo if you intend to spend quality time in the great outdoors together.
It is a dome tent with dimensions of 86.6 x 48.4 inches. The center height is 43.5 inches while it weighs 5.2 pounds.
This is a two-layer model that is made of ultra-lightweight no-see mesh and durable 68D polyester. The floor features welded oxford. What about the poles?
I like that this backpacking tent has 7001 aluminum poles that are 8.5mm thick making the structure light however strong in case of bad weather.
Extra-large #8 two-way zippers on doors and vestibules are convenient to have and are also very quiet which is very nice.
The side components at the corners will come in handy for storing a flashlight or a sun cream. A gear loft is included as well.
This isn’t a shelter that you would use in winter as it is too ventilated. It has 2 O-shape doors, one on each side to have an easier entering or exiting it. They can be stored aside so they won’t get in your way.
It doesn’t have windows but it doesn’t need ones because the upper inner part of the structure is meshed providing you great views and ventilation.
It features a waterproof bathtub floor and a fly that goes almost to the ground, making you protected from the wind and rain.
The inner fabric is half meshed so no problem with the air getting in when the fly is off. If you would have to have a fly on because of the rain you will just open the roof vents to increase the air flow.
This unit has a small vestibule so your mutt can lay close to you. It is a great place for storing wet gear and shoes as well. Its door can be rolled up.
It is easy to assemble this one. Layout the fabric on the ground. Assemble two of the aluminum poles and put their ends into the grommets, making them to crisscross.
Go ahead and attach the fabric to the poles with the clips to have a fully-standing structure. In case of rain, put a fly on and buckle it to stay secure. Stake it. The setup should take you around 5 minutes.

This lightweight backpacking unit will be a perfect choice if you are going outdoors with your best four-paw friend. It’s a one-man tent with a vestibule.
Its dimensions are 82 x 24 x 45 inches, and its weight only 1.98 pounds so you will be able to carry it in your backpack.
This Geertop one-person product has a fly that is made out of 15D nylon including a 3000 mm waterproof silicone coating. The company included a 20D 360 T double silicon coating nylon canopy to provide you light packing.
The floor features tear-resistant 20D double silicon coating nylon. The poles are aluminum to make the shelter even more light and also wind-resistant.
This model has a classic triangular pyramid structure with a spacious vestibule. You will be able to use dual entrances in a D-shape. It has 2 ventilation windows and a mesh pocket for storing small items. There is a place to hang a lantern if you want.
It’s not freestanding model so this means you will have to stake it out. You can set up the inner tent itself and have a lots of air or place another layer on which in a rain fly to keep dry when the storm is near.
With the 3000 mm waterproof coating, this is a decent 3-season unit. It has a full-coverage fly that goes all the way down to the ground to provide dry camping with your canine.
Don’t you worry about gear storage as this shelter has 2 vestibules, one on left and one on the right side. I included this product as one of the best tents for camping with dogs just because of the big vestibules.
You can reserve one for your furry friend and prepare him comfortable bedding. There is no floor in them so you can invite your friend to spend the night in the bedroom when it rains or place a tarp in the vestibule so he will sleep on the dry ground.
For ventilation inside you have meshed interior, two doors for cross ventilation. The fly of this trekking-pole-style tent has vents on both sides so the hot air can escape out.
Extend the material on the ground and stake it out. Use trekking poles on each side and erect the model. You will get a nylon cloth to put on the poles to stick them together. Put the fly on and stake it as well.
Forceatt 3-person camping tent
Last but now least is the Forceatt outdoor unit that is one of the best tents for a couple and a dog that is worth having. It measures 88.4 x 72.7 x 47.2 inches and has 6.5 pounds which makes it a good backpacking shelter as well.
This Forceatt shelter has a rain fly that is made of 75 denier 220T tear-resistant polyester that features a 3000 mm waterproof coating.
This lightweight backpacking tent includes a welded floor that is manufactured with 220 denier Oxford cloth with PU5000 mm coating. Poles are 7001 series aluminum.
The product is advertised for 3 people but I think it will fit 2 people and a dog more comfortably. It features the main sleeping room and a vestibule where you can store gear.
A vestibule is also a perfect place for a pet to spend the night close to you and protected.
You will love the dual zippers. This unit has #8 SBS zippers that are known for their high quality, durability, and smooth operation.
There are three ways you can use this unit so it is a perfect 4-season tent. Pitch an inner tent that has a lot of mesh in the warm days and place a fly on when you see rain coming your way.
I like the third pitching way that enables a comfy resting place on the hot summer days. You will set up the pole system and place a fly on that has space at the bottom for the fresh air to come in. This is why you can also use it for beach camping with dogs.
You will prevent condensation with a lot of mesh on the upper part of the shelter, 2 big mesh doors, 2 mesh windows. Due to all of this mesh, it is one of the best tents for stargazing.
When you have the fly on, it has vents (one on each side) to help you have a dry camping interior in the case of precipitation.
The full-coverage fly with the high waterproof rating is its basic water protection element. It also features a bathtub floor that disables rainwater from sipping in.
The assembly is easy and you should have your shelter ready in a few minutes. This one has pole construction that is made from one peace so you won’t need to assemble the poles together.
Layout the fabric of the tent on the ground. Grab a pole construction and place it on the fabric, putting its ends into the grommets to secure them. Now use the clips and connect the fabric with the construction.
Place a fly on if you need to and secure it to the ground. Use the guy lines in the wind.
Camping with a dog in a tent guide
There are some things to consider before heading to the great outdoors with your pet. Buying the right tent for you and your pooch must be done carefully. Here are the features of a shelter to consider having.
You should get a model that will be big enough for you and him. Is he of small size or does he need a lot of space? The model’s size is the most important so he will have space for sleeping and resting.
Get the one with the vestibule
If you are heading outdoors alone with your pooch then consider a unit that has a vestibule. A vestibule is a perfect spot to store the gear but it can also serve as a pet sleeping place.
If the rain is heading to your way you can also put him inside the main room if a vestibule doesn’t have a floor (in most cases) or you can place a tarp on the ground to protect him from the rainwater.
Take care of the fresh air
Always take care of interior ventilation. Open the roof or ground vents when it’s raining or open the doors and windows on a hot summer night so your dog will sleep more comfortably.
Should you take your dog camping?
If you got the idea to take your pooch camping you should ask yourself some questions before heading to the wild.
Situations when he should be at home
There are some situations when he should stay at home instead of exposing his health in the outdoors.
If he is sick, or changed his behavior and look strange you should postpone the adventure and take care of him first. If he is taking any medications, go to his vet and ask him if you can take him outdoors with you or not.
If he is not vaccinated then you should do it to protect him from highly contagious diseases such as respiratory tract infections, canine distemper, and parvovirus infection.
If you don’t vaccinate him then you risk rabies that can transmit from an animal to a human. You must know that there are wild animals who can be sick so don’t hesitate to take him to the vet to have a secure trip later.
Taking puppy outdoors
If you have a young pup I don’t recommend taking him with you as he doesn’t know the commands yet and won’t listen to you as an adult dog would. A puppy isn’t aware of the danger so he could get lost and face dangerous animals that can harm him.
If you still decide to take him with you take care of him all the time so he will be safe. Don’t forget on the leash, toys, a bed, puppy food, and water.
Do dogs like sleeping in tents?
Some do and others don’t, it depends on their habits. If you tough your young puppy to rest inside the tent then he shouldn’t have problems spending a night with you in it.
The more you will camp together the more will he adapt to the outdoors and also a shelter where he will sleep safely in his part of a shelter.
How do you camp in a tent with a dog?
If you want to have a peaceful and relaxing adventure trip then you should take my advice. Doggy breeds act differently, some are more peaceful and some more anxious and active.
It is important that you take care of your pet’s needs when you are out there. As a mutt owner, you know your pet well to know what he needs and what does his behavior means. So, how to make him happy and satisfied staying in the tent?
Tent camp at home
This is the best way to show him that a tent is a friendly place to stay over the night. Practice tent camping at home. Go ahead and pitch it in your backyard.
Spend some time with your Fido and go inside and out of the unit as much as possible. He will follow inside and through time he will feel comfortable.
Take some of his favorite toys inside and play with him as he must be relaxed and feel safe. The more you will spend time with him in a shelter the more relaxed he will be.
Use a calming spray
I don’t know if you heard of a calming spray for dogs but it exists. Buy a dog calming spray so its smell will help him to adjust to the tent. You can also spray the car with it. I recommend this type of product for all you owners who have anxious and hyperactive pets.
Put a tarp on the floor
Some shelters have a floor that is made especially for his claws. However, most units don’t have a dog-friendly floor so you have to protect it yourself.
Place a tarp above the floor to protect it from claws and teeth. This is a simple but effective way to prolong the shelter’s life.
Leaving the tent
Teach him to give a sign when he wants to go out of the tent. My furry friend usually whimpers when he wants out as I taught him to give me a sign.
Using his paws is not a good idea because he could tear the door fabric. Teach him a better, smarter way to leave the interior so he won’t damage the unit.
How can I protect my tent from my dog?
If you don’t prepare to have him inside a tent you could end your adventure prematurely. To protect the floor, put a tarp or a heavy-duty rug on so he won’t tear the fabric.
His place close to the door
I also recommend having a special place just for him that is close to the doors so he won’t run through the whole shelter for the exit. You could also place a dog bed where he will rest and additionally protect the floor sheet from damage.
Cut his claws
Another thing you can do preventively is to cut his claws. This is a wise straightforward way to prevent tearing of the unit’s floor. If you can’t do it take him to a vet and he will do it for you.
Can you leave a dog in a tent?
I don’t recommend leaving him inside for a longer time as he could suddenly want to get out. Never zip the shelter as he could get panic and destroy the tent to go free.
However, you can leave the door open to provide better airflow and to give him the possibility to go out on a short walk or to poop while you set a campfire and cook a meal.
What to bring camping for dogs?
Don’t skip this paragraph as you will know what are dog camping essentials to take with you on the trip.
First aid kit
A dog’s first aid kit is basic equipment if you want to have a safe outdoor vacation. The kit includes some basic medicinal essentials that will come in handy in case something happens to your pooch.
Collar with information
No matter if you are camping in the backcountry or in a dog-friendly campground your doggo should have a collar so if someone finds him he can find you or call you about the missing animal.
A leash is a must and one of the most important pieces of equipment for a dog outdoors. Use it to make your pup stay at one place when you cook or set a fire.
It is even more important that you have a leashed animal when you two are going for a hike. An unleashed animal can disturb and chase wild animals which isn’t such a good idea and also not fear the animals that are living there.
Portable dog fences for camping
I like to put camping dog fencing close to the tent so my friend can have some space to move around and not be leashed and restrained all the time. When buying yours, consider height, weight, material, adaptability (additional panels to put in height if he still grows), and size.
Poo bags are a must as you should leave nature as it was before you came. You can purchase dog bags to have a clean camping area and to not disturb the animals who are living there.
Food and water bowl
I am sure your fur friend eats and drinks from bowls. If you don’t have a separate bowl for food and water, buy them so he can have his own containers to please his basic needs.
Dog camping furniture
How about his comfort while you enjoy the outdoors? Dog camping furniture as a dog bed, a chair, a cot, and a dog sleeping bag are pieces of equipment that can make your pup more relaxed and satisfied.
If you don’t have a dog grooming kit yet consider one so your four-paw friend will stay clean and free of dirt to enter the tent.
The kit comes in handy especially in summer when you want to thin his fur so he can cool himself faster. Use a nail kit to cut his long claws to protect the unit’s floor from being torn apart.
Here are some ideas from The Spruce Pets to choose the perfect grooming kit for your pet friend.
What do you do with your dog while camping?
There are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself with your four-paw friend on a camping getaway. Try the hottest ones.
Moving and being active is a dog’s natural thing. As you came outdoors to have a good time, take him for a long walk around the campsite, taking his first aid kit with you.
Don’t forget to pack water and some snacks while you two explore the wood trails and hills. I recommend a small waterproof pack where you will be able to store all the hiking necessities.
When you don’t know what to do play fetch. Find a small stick (check if it has resin) and play fetch on the open area where he will be able to run freely.
This is a fun game for both of you. He will have his daily exercise and you will enjoy some quality time with him.
Go for a swim together
If your canine likes being in water then I have a perfect outdoor exercise for both of you. Pack some towels and snacks and spend the day near the lake or river.
Swimming is one of the healthiest cardio workouts that involve muscles of the whole body and doesn’t burden the joints. So this exercise is especially appropriate if you own an older animal that has weak joints.
How can I keep my dog cool while camping?
The purpose of your journey is to have a nice time while exploring and learning new things with your pup. However, camping on hot summer days can make your friend exhausted and not interested in the action.
So, what can you do to ease his outdoor stay? These are just a few ways that I like to use on my Fido when there is pretty darn hot outside.
Fresh and clean drinkable water
A pet should always have free access to fresh drinkable water. Dogs cool themselves through the tongue so make sure he has clean and cool water all the time.
Place a water bowl in a shady place and check if he still has it through the day. Refill when needed.
Take him swimming
This is one of my favorite ways to make my pet cool for a long time. Find a lake, a creek, or a river nearby and take him to have a swim. If the body is in water it cools faster than if he only drinks water.
There is one more advantage of this cooling method. After his refreshing swim he will feel cool for hours as his fur will need time to get dry.
Pro tip: Stay away from the torrential rivers and waters.
Dog’s shade shelter
A dog shade tent comes in handy especially if you camp directly in the sun or in a place where there isn’t much natural shade. Place a shade shelter on the most cooling spot so he could have a more comfortable rest.
Make sure that a model is of the right size and breathable enough so the breeze will reach him easily.
Cooling dog bandana
Did you ever hear a tip to put a cold towel around your neck to cool yourself? The cool feeling helps to cool the veins of your neck and to feel relieved.
It is the same for canines. A cooling bandana for dogs that you buy in a store will help them to survive those hot summer temperatures.
Cooling dog bed or a gel-filled mat
This is one of my favorite dog camping gear for the summer. It cools down via an animal’s own body weight. Place it in the shade where he can catch an afternoon nap.
How cold is too cold to camp with a dog?
According to Camp Bow Wow, a canine is comfortable around 45 degrees F. When the temperatures go below 40 degrees F you should consider providing him some insulation or gear that will keep him cozy.
There are some other factors besides outdoor temperature to think of. His size matters as small ones get colder faster than larger breeds.
I remember how my friend needed to drees up her Yorkshire terrier when he went out for a walk. She told me that he needs an additional warming coat (jacket) in colder weather.
I was even more surprised when she told me that this bread can also die if it is exposed to cold temperatures for too long.
If your dog has a thin coat and if he is older then don’t forget to bring some kind of warm bed. A puppy is full of energy and active so his blood is circulating and making him warm.
An older mutt doesn’t have much circulation so he needs a little help in a form of a sleeping pad, blanket, jacket, or sleeping bag so he could spend quality time with you.
How do you keep a dog warm in a tent?
If you intend to sleep in a tent with a dog in winter and on colder days then you should consider ways to keep him warm inside. What equipment to use to provide him a warm and safe place to sleep?
Use a blanket
Use an old-fashioned way to keep warm outside; use a blanket. It will keep him warm when the temperatures get low so he will have an easier time to fall asleep.
Dog sleeping pad
If your friend isn’t used to sleep in a bed with walls or in a limited space (bag) then you could get him a sleeping pad instead.
It will prevent losing his body temperature through the ground and make him cozy to spend the night beside you.
Dog sleeping bag
Dog sleeping bags are a wonderful idea, especially if your pet is used to one. It will keep him warm and cozy all night.
When buying one, consider the warmth, durability, waterproofness, and size of a product to provide the right one for him.
If he isn’t familiar with it you can practice sleeping in it so he will use to it and make it as his own.
Does my dog need a sleeping bag?
It isn’t necessary that he has it. However, if he has short fur or is a delicate breed that gets cold pretty fast it is recommendable.
The benefit of a sleeping bag is that the pet doesn’t lose his body temperature so fast. Dogs like to curl up in things similar to cats so a bag will help Fido to feel safer.
Do dogs need blankets while camping?
If you are going camping in winter or when temperatures get lower than 40 degrees F then you should think of dog gear for camping that will keep him warm.
Blankets are useful and convenient as they can be folded in a backpack. You can lay it on the ground so he can lay on it or cover him with it. Know what he prefers and make him comfortable.
Today you also have plenty of other sleeping equipment for dogs that will protect them from the cold and hypothermia. Choose the one that your pet will feel the most comfortable with considering the habits that he already has.
How do you keep your dog clean while camping?
Being clean outdoors is a challenge for us humans but how about canines? Exploring, sniffing, and running around will make your pet dirty, that’s for sure. How to keep him clean and how to prepare him for bedtime in the tent?
A lake bath
You shouldn’t limit him while he’s exploring the surroundings. Go for a walk around the campsite with him and find new interesting places to see.
If your pup is dirty encourage him to jump in a lake or a creek to refresh and wash the dirt off.
Brushing his fur
When you come back to a camping spot take his favorite brush and start brushing his fur. Before he goes to sleep clean his paws with a wet cloth.
If he likes water then you can bathe him with a gentle shampoo that is meant for canines but don’t do it too often, just when he’s dirty.
How do I stop my dog barking when camping?
This is one of the most annoying situations no matter if you are staying in the campground or camping in the wild alone. It is important to know why is he barking. Maybe he saw something in the bushes or just want your attention.
The way he barks
Observe his behavior while he barks. Is he barking aggressively or is he barking repeatedly? It is important to understand what kind of bark is it and find a solution.
If you see that he barks because of a wild animal, close him to a fenced place or tie him to a tree and try to point the animal in a different direction.
Be extra careful if you see a bear nearby. Bears are afraid of humans and when they hear your voice they will automatically go away (if they don’t feel threatened).
Check three ways to stop dog’s barking and other tips that will help you understand the science of barking.
What is in a dog first aid kit?
Having a first aid kit for a dog should be first on the list of the dog’s camping essentials. You never know what happens out there so prepare his kit at home to help him in case of bleeding or injuries in the wild.
These are the basic things that the kit should include to be prepared of the worst:
- Cotton wool
- Non-adhesive absorbent dressings
- (curved) blunt-ended scissors
- Open-weave bandages
- Surgical sticky tape
- Sterile absorbent gauze
- Thich towel
- Elizabethan collar
Do dogs attract bears?
You should know that bears go away from dogs as they link them to humans. Canines can smell a bear from a long distance and want to get close to him.
The good camping etiquette is to have your Fido leashed or fenced so he can’t disturb wild animals in their natural environment.
So, make sure your animal will have some space for moving around the campsite but won’t move freely as he pleases.
Spend quality outdoor time with your dog
Going outdoors with your best four-paw friend can be the best outdoor experience ever if you take care of the essentials.
Getting one of the best tents for camping with dogs will provide a room for sleeping and a shelter for both of you.
Consider all the product’s features and decide which product will satisfy both of your needs. If you are going on an adventure as a family then the only option is to get a big unit.
However, if you are going backpacking or camping alone or with your partner, you can get a smaller tent that will also have a space for a pet.
Remember, your pooch should be satisfied and safe all the time so take good care of him and he will make your trip memorable for many years.
