Do you need a stove for backpacking?
The answer to this question is simple. If you will backpack then you will need to eat, right? You can always pack your backpack with sandwiches and dry food but don’t you want to prepare yourself a warm meal with nutrients?
Cooked meals are more nutritious and provide us hydration, and you can also use the stove to boil water and purify it. If you will be in nature for a few days then I strongly recommend purchasing one so you can prepare a morning coffee, a hot soup and other healthy meals.
Why use a wood-burning stove instead of a gas one?
The wood-burning cooker is a better option than getting a gas one, but why?
You won’t need to pack any gas tank with you, won’t burden the pack additionally because of it, will be able to pick the fuel in the woods, and at the same time protect nature as it is environmental-friendly.
Gas fuel canisters for backpacking stoves are small and can run out of fuel fast but you have plenty of twigs, sticks, pine cones, and other biomass in nature to pick and they will never run out.
Which is better steel or cast iron stoves?
Are twig stoves good?
Twig stoves are the most simple and efficient way to prepare your outdoor meal on the trail. It is really simple to set up this kind of stove, pick some twigs and set a fire to prepare a hot coffee or cook a dinner.
You don’t need to pack any fuel in your backpack while these stoves are foldable and portable.
The only con that these stoves have is the fuel type as you will need to pick enough twigs so the fire won’t go out as you prepare your meal or drink.
Are Solo stoves any good?
Solo stoves are far most popular among outdoor stoves on the market. The Solo Stove company is making fire pits, camp stoves, grills, and accessories to help you have the most pleasurable moments in nature.
The best thing about their stoves is that you won’t need to bring any fuel with you on an outdoor adventure as you will pick it in the woods. With the simple wood-burning solutions, you will be able to boil water and cook meals in no time.
Do Solo stoves rust?
Solo stoves are made of stainless steel which is known for not rusting. If you want to know why stainless steel doesn’t rust read this short article by Scientific American. Their stoves also include nichrome wire which is extremely resistant in nature.
No matter of the quality non-rusting materials I recommend that you clean your stove after usage and wipe it with the dry cloth.
How do you keep a solo stove shiny?
It is important that you clean your stove after using it. As they are made from stainless steel, I reccomend using a stainless steel cleaner to prolong the life of the product.
Bar Keepers Friend is an American company that manufactures exceptional cleaning agents; outdoor cleaning products as well. The Bar Keepers Friend liquid stainless steel cleaner is a perfect choice when it comes to cleaning your stainless steel stove.
The product is powerful enough to remove oil stains and will make a stove shiny and protected for a long term use.
Does the solo stove keep you warm?
No matter that the backpacking stove is small it will provide some warmth, especially inside a tent. Solo stove works by putting wood in the bottom so it will provide some warmth.
It comes in handy when you are camping or backpacking in cold temperatures when you need to warm your hands and have a warm element in your tent to have a good night’s sleep.
However, don’t expect that it will keep you warm all night as the twigs can’t provide warmth for the whole night.
Is Solo Stove Lite worth it?
If you are going backpacking alone or with another person this might be the right stove for you. The Solo Stove Lite model is environment-friendly, durable, portable, creates warmth and a good ambience, produces little smoke and performs well in wind.
It is made of stainless steel that won’t rust and is easy to clean. You won’t need to carry fuel with you as you will just pick some twigs to get a fire starting. It boils water in 8-10 minutes.
No matter of the higher price and weight factor (0.90 lbs.) it is one of the best wood burning backpacking stoves for the money.
Cook yourself a perfect outdoor meal
These are my picks of the best wood burning backpacking stoves that you can use on your next excursion. As you’re headed out to the trail, don’t forget it to bring with you. They’re small and lightweight cooking items to use.
Because they burn wood and biomass, you won’t need to lug a propane or gasoline tank with you to keep your cooking device going, which saves you some weight in your backpack and is also environmentally friendly.
